Maria Löw

Maria Löw was born in Sweden. She studied Textile Design at Konstfack College of Craft and Design in Stockholm.
Maria Löw is a well-known name in Swedish design. She has been active as a freelance designer since she graduated in 1988. Her textile designs, for the home as well as public spaces, include printed and woven fabrics, hand-tufted and woven rugs and carpets, printed blinds and wallpaper. Among her clients are Ikea of Sweden, Marks Pelle Vävare, Svenskt Tenn, Strömma of Sweden, Borås Wäfveri, Ljungbergs Textiltryck and Almedahls. Other commissions include the Swedish Foreign Office and she is represented with unique carpets in the Swedish Embassies of Jakarta and Canberra as well as in the EU Headquarters in Brussels.
The expression of Maria Löw spans broadly from organic to more stringent geometric shapes. She moves skillfully between these extremities, using powerful gestures and an exquisite sense of color. She has repeatedly received the ‘Utmärkt Svensk Form’ Excellence in Swedish Design award for carpets as well as fabrics. She has also received a price in Japan:‘Sakizo - Textile Design Competition 2000’.
Maria has many commercially successful products in her portfolio. Some examples are: Furniture fabric ‘Vanessa’ Marks Pelle Vävare (1989), linen collection ‘Gunita och Ginia’ Ikea of Sweden. (1996), Printed curtain fabric ‘Algebra’ Strömma of Sweden (1995) and Printed curtain fabric ‘Blomstra’ Almedahls (2000).
I the last few years Maria Löw has worked extensively with Almedahls Contract creating new textile concepts ‘Blomstra’, ”Lace’, ‘Bric’ ‘3D Rug’“"Lucky" and "Corso" concept. Her designs are extremely well received by producers, consumers and critics alike. The leading Swedish design magazine ‘Form’ writes about ‘3D Rug’: “-Better that Good!” “Functionality with an artistic ‘trompe l´oeil’ effect”. They go further: “A new way of thinking, effective, breaking barriers”
